Of tapering form with abstract linear glaze.

Jean Cartier (1924-1996), one of the most important Canadian ceramists, studied in Paris and Montreal in the 1950s. The city of Montreal commissioned several public works by him, including the metro stations Papineau and Cardinale, and a fountain for Montreal's Expo '67.  In 1998, after his death, the Conseil des metiers d'art du Quebec renamed their ceramics prize "Le Prix de la Relève Jean-Cartier."
